Olympique Marseille defender, Boubacar Kamara has named Barcelona captain Lionel Messi as his idol, and Neymar as the most difficult player he has ever faced.
Speaking to Ligue1.com in answering some quick-fire question, the young defender noted that he admired the Argentine and opined that he is the best player on the planet.
Messi and Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has been in stiff competition for over a decade as the duo usually lift their respective teams. This might be the reason Kamara pointed out that whoever likes football must like Messi.
Messi had beaten off competition from Ronaldo after emerging the best player of the year for the sixth time, with one better than the Portuguese talisman.
Speaking further, the 20-year-old defender revealed that he had always fancied the number 4 jersey since he was a kid. While noting that he still has the number, Kamara said he was swapping between the number 4 and 23 when he became a senior squad member. He added that the two numbers correspond with his birthday, but the club gave him the number 4 jersey.
When asked what he would have loved to do if he didn’t make it as a footballer, the young defender said he never thought about other professions than the game.
Kamara has been a mainstay in Marseille squad named Paris Germaine’s forward, Neymar as the most impressive player he has ever played against. He added that the Brazilian skipper is a trickish world-class player who can’t be predicted. This, according to him, makes him very hard to mark by defenders.
While also revealed that the first jersey he ever got was from former Marseille striker, Didier Drogba who later secured a 24 million pound move to Chelsea, he named Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly and his Liverpool counterpart Virgil van Dijk as his role model.
While nothing that the duo are the two benchmarks in his position, he added that they are tough players and challenging to pass because they have had good games where they exhibited a lot of character.
The Frenchman who also likes a pass that breaks the lines said a player’s first touch is the most robust move in football technically, adding that a player can’t go behind with it.
Apart from his defensive duties, the centre back has scored some goals for the club with his first being a winner in the 1-0 win over Girondins de Bordeaux in February 2017/2018 season.
