Nantes coach, Antoine Kombouaré has described this team’s triumph over Monaco in the semi-final of the Coupe de France as a rare moment.
FC Nantes shocked Monaco by progressing to the final of the tournament by winning 4-2 on penalties after regulation time sees the scoreline read 2-2 on Wednesday night.
Thus, Les Canaris will now trade tackles with OGC Nice in the showpiece final at the Stade de France on 8 May.
Meanwhile, Nantes is currently seventh in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. They will be preparing for the final after a dramatic evening at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Wednesday.
Speaking after the match, Kombouaré said a lot of images come to mind due to their victory. Part of them, according to him are huge satisfaction, pride, and things that are a little bit beyond my comprehension.
An overwhelmed Kombouaré said he saw the people stream onto the pitch, which was a rare moment. He added that it was a very beautiful moment that Nante os experiencing.
While noting that they made a very good start, he admitted that they suffered afterwards.
Monaco went ahead through Guillermo Maripan in the intense battle that saw the sides at level pegging for most of the match. Nantes got back into the tie after Djibril Sidibé scored an own goal. Myron Boadu then cancelled out Samuel Moutoussamy’s goal in the 74th minute.
After a regulation time draw, Nantes’ reserve ‘keeper Rémy Descamps became the hero for the team in the penalty shoot-out.
The goalie stopped Ben Yedder’s spot-kick to give his team a memorable win over the top Ligue 1 team.
Descamps saved the very first penalty of the shoot-out played by Ligue 1 Uber Eats top scorer Ben Yedder.
Meanwhile, Nantes outfielders Randal Kolo Muani, Quentin Merlin, Moutoussamy, and Moses Simon all beat Alexander Nübel. Monaco’s Aurélien Tchouameni blazed over the ball, and the single save by Descamps was enough to send Les Canaris through.
Kombouaré lauded Descamps and said he could have done much better, especially for the two goals.
He also noted that the goalie was very strong, mentally, because he was very good in the penalty shootout.
