Kylian Mbappé must sign a new contract to stay at PSG, says club president Al-Khelaifi

Paris Saint-Germain president Al-Khelaifi has made it clear that Kylian Mbappe must sign a new contract to stay at the club. The club’s chief has revealed the team will not allow him to leave for free next year.

Recently, Mbappe confirmed he had no intentions of extending his contract with the club, which will expire next year in 2024. However, the Frenchman also clarified that he did not ask the club to allow him to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have shown interest in signing him in the past.

“My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract,” Al-Khelaifi told reporters after unveiling Luis Enrique as the club’s new manager.

“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free — we can’t do that. This is a French club.

“He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.”

Meanwhile, Mbappe has played a key role in PSG’s success as he has finished as Ligue 1’s highest goal-scorer in the last five seasons.

Kylian Mbappe scored 29 goals and provided five assists in 34 Ligue 1 matches for PSG Saint-Germain in the 2022-23 season and played a key role in taking the Parisians to glory. The Frenchman also played a huge role in helping France qualify for the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

PSG will be keen to keep Mbappe after having already lost the services of Lionel Messi as a free agent.
