Real Madrid could slip further downwards in the La Liga standings when they face FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the Spanish La Liga on Sunday.
The two teams clash at a time when Barcelona tops the league standings with a two-point advantage while Real Madrid is currently facing a dip in form as they are without a win in their last three games.
The first El Clasico for the season in the La Liga saw both teams played out a 0-0 draw in December, but from trailing Zinedine Zidane’s men, Barcelona has managed to overturn and build a 2 point gap which could be extended to 5 should Quique Setien’s side get a victory.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, needs the win not only to reduce the point gap but to as well for pride as the Galacticos are yet to defeat Barcelona since 2017 in a 2-0 win in the Spanish Super Cup Final.
In seven El Clasicos played since then, Barcelona has won four, and the rest have been draws. Barcelona for the game are considered the big favorites after scoring 62 goals in 25 games and only conceding 29 games.
Real Madrid have scored 46 goals and 17 conceded in 25 games, but they have striking problems after losing Eden Hazard to a long term injury while Rodrygo has been suspended after he was red-carded for bizarre reasons last week in a Real Madrid Castilla match.
Both teams come into the game after stumbling during the week in their respective UEFA Champions League fixtures with the Los Blancos losing to Manchester City 2-1 while Barcelona drew 1-1 in Italy against Napoli.
In other games in the La Liga, Sevilla will host Osasuna, Athletic Bilbao will host Villarreal, Espanyol and Atletico Madrid while Mallorca and Getafe will also play.
