Poland Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has said that it is possible that he will retire at Barcelona after stating that his retirement is close. The 35-year-old forward was given a more defensive style by Xavi last season, but it hasn’t changed the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund striker’s attitude towards the club or the team.
Instead, the striker scored twenty-three goals and seven assists in 34 La Liga appearances as they went on to win La Liga with four games to spare. In fact, Lewandowski felt he should have scored more last season.
“My retirement? It’s close. It is possible that I will finish my career in Barcelona, where I and my family feel very comfortable. I felt I scored five or six goals less because I had to do other things. My role was important not only on the pitch but also off it; I had to fit in a new role.” Lewandowski said.
The striker still has three years left on his contract and wants to add to the Supercopa De Espana and La Liga titles he has won at the club. This he further targets after dismissing any likely move to Saudi Arabia based on recent trends.
The Polish striker says there is no issue in that regard as he doesn’t think about it and that it doesn’t worry him as he has other priorities at the moment.
Big European stars have favored moves from Europe to Saudi Arabia, with Karim Benzema joining Al-Ittihad as well as Ngolo Kante this summer. Several other big stars are also linked to Saudi Arabia.
Robert Lewandowski’s contract at Barcelona runs until 2026, when he will turn 38. Apart from his 30-goal contribution in La Liga, he scored five goals in five UEFA Champions League games as Barcelona were knocked out of the competition in the group stage.
