Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi has indicated his interest in playing in Major League Soccer in the USA in the future.
Messi revealed this as he moves closer to a turning point in his club career as he will be able to make negotiations with other teams come January 2021 with his contract with Barcelona set to expire in June.
However, despite his revelation, the 33-year-old Argentine insisted that his next destination is uncertain and unclear.
Nevertheless, he said he would continue to give his best for Barcelona and try to end the season well with the team, get the needed results, and win trophies.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do yet; I’m going to wait until the season ends. I would like to play in the United States and experience life and the league there, but ultimately come back to Barcelona in some capacity. Right now, the most important thing is to focus on the team and finish the season well, to focus on trying to win trophies and not get distracted by other things.” Messi said.
Messi handed in a transfer request to Barcelona in August, and he has continued to have speculations surrounding him regarding his next move.
Messi describes the reign of the club’s former president Josep Maria Bartomeu as a disaster and a difficult one for everyone at the club. He further stated that the club is in a bad state, and it will be challenging to return the club to its previous state.
The skipper and the club’s ex-president clashed during the summer leading to the resignation of Bartomeu in October.
This was after Barcelona failed to win a trophy last season. They are currently having their worst start to a league campaign in 33 years as they currently sit fifth in La Liga. Barcelona will face Eibar today without their talisman Lionel Messi.
