The FIFA World Cup is about to start in a couple of months in Qatar and Paris Saint Germain star player Lionel Messi has named his favourites to win the trophy this year. While the Argentine sensational named the usual suspects as the contenders to win the World Cup, he favours France slightly more than the other teams as they have a very strong core heading into the quadrennial tournament.
He also does not forget to add Brazil as the South Americans look like a strong outfit heading into the big event. He compares Brazil’s depth with France and feels that both those teams have multiple options all across the field. Both Brazil and France are teams who have the same core and have been playing together for sometime now and hence they have an upper hand over the other teams.
“The big national teams, Brazil, Germany, France, England, Spain, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some of them,” Messi said via PSG Talk. “But if I have to keep one or two, today, I believe that Brazil and France are the two big candidates for this World Cup.”
While Messi has favoured France and Brazil over other teams, it is also a fact that La Albiceleste have also done great work heading into the World Cup and led by Messi himself Argentine will also be a team to beat in this quadrennial tournament.
However Messi gave his reasoning of selecting France and Brazil as he shared how Les Blues and Selecaos have a very strong core and have been together for sometime now and hence he favours them to lift the cup in Qatar. “They have had the same group for a long time. France, beyond the last Euro where it went badly, they have impressive players, the same coach for a long time. Brazil too. Today, I think they are the two favorites, even if all the big teams are candidates,” Messi clarified.
While Les Blues will be entering the Qatar World Cup as the defending champions, Brazil will be looking to add more to their already star studded World Cup cabinet. Also the Selecaos are looking to end a 20-year drought and hence winning the World Cup in Qatar will be exceptional for Tite and his men.
France are in Group D alongwith Australia, Tunisia and Denmark while Brazil are drawn Group G with Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. Lionel Messi will also look to led Argentina to the World Cup glory in Qatar as they are placed in Group C with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
