Liverpool earned a massive advantage in the Premier League title race with a 6-0 win over Leeds United. It was another masterpiece performance from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as both the players scored brilliant braces to lead the Reds to a dominant win.
While both players were exceptional it was special for Sadio Mane as the Senegalese had an exceptional night against the Whites and even Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could not stop praising the talented forward.
“Sadio Mane’s game was probably one of his best in the way he interpreted his role. Playing in the center, how he got away from his opponent and open up gaps for us. It was absolutely insane,” the German tactician said in admiration for Senegal international who recently bagged the African Cup of Nations.
Mane was swapped from the flanks to playing in a more central role by Klopp but that had hardly any effect on his goalscoring skills. He used his pace and was a constant threat to the opposition defenders.
However, in the larger context, this game was important for Liverpool in the context of the Premier League title as the Reds now reach three points behind league leaders and reigning champions Manchester City.
However, Klopp is unbothered about chasing Manchester City or even the Premier League title. He wants his team to focus on winning the remaining games.
“Honestly, we don’t chase City; we try to win our football games. The thing is now we have obviously the [Carabao] Cup final at the weekend [against Chelsea] and City plays [Everton]. But they might probably win this game then it is six points again before we play the next Premier League game.”
The German feels that a few wins here and there will suddenly put Manchester City nine points ahead in the title race. So he does not want to discuss any other team and wants full focus on winning their upcoming games.
“I am not sure then if we play the next game after them or before them, [but] it might be nine points all of a sudden, so we don’t have to count these kinds of things. We just have to win our football games,’ Klopp added.
The Reds can also win the EFL Cup this weekend as they face Chelsea in the finals and with Premier League and Champions League knockout stages heating up it will be interesting to see where the Red end up this season.
