Liverpool continues Premier League redemption race against Leicester City

    December 31, 2022

They are two different calibers of teams, even though there might be a bit of similarity between them as they are both former Premier League champions.

However, a Liverpool and Leicester City fixture is not usually regarded as the biggest, but considering the nature of the performance the two teams have shown this season, this is a big fixture between two teams that have shared similar situations this season.

Neither started the season very well, but both picked up before the world cup break. For context, Liverpool started the season abysmally and was far away from the top four spots, struggling to adjust to life since the exit of Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, who left for Bayern Munich.

However, after beating Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park in their first Premier League fixture since the world cup break, Liverpool now sits in fifth position and one point behind Tottenham Hotspur.

A win against Leicester City on Friday will help their cause to return to the UEFA Champions League places.

Meanwhile, for Leicester City, the goal has been, and for Friday’s fixture, would be to steer clear of relegation waters.

The Foxes were one of the poorest starters in the Premier League this season but have steadied the ship, Brendan Rodgers’s side now sits in 13th position and four points above the last relegation place.

Leicester City’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Friday is one of the final rounds of matches in the Premier League for the year 2022, which is round 18 of matches of the season.

Other games will follow as West Ham and Brentford will face each other on Friday, while there will be six more fixtures on Saturday.

These will include Wolves hosting Manchester United at Molineux Stadium on January 4. Bournemouth welcoming Crystal Palace to the vitality Stadium, Fulham and Southampton will play, Manchester City against Everton, Newcastle United vs. Leeds United, and Brighton against Arsenal.
