    Takumi Minamino Liverpool

Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino not satisfied with his performances this season

    February 10, 2022

Japanese forward Takumi Minamimo joined Liverpool in 2019 after he enjoyed a great season with his former team Red Bull Salzburg. However, Japan International has failed to live up to the expectations ever since his big move to the Premier League. Therefore, Minamino is also dissatisfied with his current contribution to the Reds.

Liverpool already had forwards like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, so game time would always be a challenge. Former Wolves star Diogo Jota has also been a great acquisition for the Red as he has been in fine form off late.

But recently with the AFCON taking place and Salah and mane leaving the Reds to represent Egypt and Senegal respectively, allowed Minamino to feature more in the starting eleven.

However, the 27-year-old wishes to do more for the team and is not happy with his current performances in Liverpool colours. He also reveals how the club was always close to heart since childhood and how that has not changed even when he is featuring for the Reds.

“Playing for Liverpool was a childhood dream and I’m really happy to be here as the club’s first Asian player. I would love to achieve something here and I am not satisfied with my results yet. I would love to contribute to the team more,” Minamino said on the club’s social media.

The Japanese forward understands that any big impact that he leaves here will mean more Asian players playing in the Premier League. The league already has players like Heung-min Son plying his trade for Tottenham Hotspur, Hwang Hee-chan turning up for the Wolves and Takehiro Tomiyasu leaving his mark for Arsenal.

“Any achievements I make here could bring more chances for Asian players who may play at this club in the future. It will also give supporters a better idea of what an Asian player can do shining for this club.”

Minamino joined Liverpool on 1st January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg. Since then he has only featured in 27 Premier League games and has found the net three times. He was even loaned to Southampton to hand him more gametime in the league. During his short stint with the Saints, he scored twice in 10 appearances as he returned back to Anfield and wished that he has done enough to impress the bosses back at his parent club.

However, things did not go that way but his dissatisfaction with not being able to deliver proves that he is honest towards his craft. Minamino can still be an important player for Jurgen Klopp s the 27-year-old will be looking to step up his game.
