Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota were on the scoresheet on Sunday as Liverpool got an easy 4-0 victory over Leicester City in their pre-season game at the Kallang National Stadium.
It was the fourth consecutive game that the Reds scored four goals since their 4-4 draw in the final Premier League game against Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium last season.
Since then, Jurgen Klopp’s side have managed a 4-2 win and another 4-4 draw against Karlsruher and Gruether Further, respectively, before Sunday.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Darwin Nunez, and three more goals followed within eight minutes as 18-year-old Bobby Clark and Diogo Jota scored in quick succession.
In the second half, 17-year-old forward Ben Doak scored the fourth goal. Up next for Liverpool is a class against Bundesliga giants Bayern match on Wednesday before facing Darmstadt on August 7, which will be their final pre-season game before their Premier League opener on August 13 against Chelsea.
Speaking after the game, the German manager stated that he was happy that nobody got injured despite the fact that some of his tactics did not work in the first half.
“First half, the high press didn’t work pretty well. In moments it got better, and then we won the ball high up the pitch, which is so important. But that’s why we had these situations where Leicester could go through with the speed. It’s really difficult for the full-backs in these moments to be in the right position. So, I’m absolutely fine; the result is top, nobody is injured, just a few knocks.” Klopp said.
Liverpool finished in fifth place last season in the Premier League behind treble winners Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester United, and as such, they will be playing in the UEFA Europa League this season.
