After suffering yet another devastating loss over the weekend, going down 2-1 against Leeds to put an end to their 15-game unbeaten run at home, Liverpool desperately needs another victory, but this time in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield.
The Reds have already secured progression from Group A, the sixth time manager Jürgen Klopp has helped them to the round of 16 and, coincidentally, the club’s longest streak.
Napoli has clinched the top spot in the group after accumulating five wins from five, although Liverpool can secure the top spot them if they beat the Italians by a four-goal margin.
However, outscoring the Serie A leader will be tough as their 20-goal haul in the group stages is the most of any team.
Luciano Spalletti’s side had a 4-0 win over Sassuolo at the weekend, ensuring a win in their last 13 matches. Nigerian striker Victor Osimehn scored his first hat trick for the club.
Meanwhile, Napoli fans will hope they continue the winning streak at Anfield, especially as they are yet to win against English opposition.
In the first leg of the tie, Napoli defeated Liverpool 4-1 in Italy, and Jurgen Klopp’s side will be open for revenge.
Elsewhere, Tottenham must do the hard task of winning in France against Marseille to keep their spot at the top of Group D and qualify for the next round of the competition.
Spurs were denied winning in their last game by the VAR after picking out Harry Kane’s last-minute strike for offside.
All other teams in group D have the same chances of qualifying for the next round, as there is just a two-point difference between Marseille in fourth and Tottenham Hotspur top of the table. Antonio Conte’s men must avoid defeat to avoid dropping to the Europa League.
