With just three wins away from clinching the world’s most prestigious title, the Netherlands coach has revealed he believes his team can go all the way to win the World Cup.
However, Louis Van Gaal has it at the back of his mind that despite a long way to go in this journey achieving this feat remains a possibility.
The Dutch side advanced into the Quarter on Saturday after seeing off USA 3-1 as they booked a date facing Lionel Scaloni’s side Argentina.
There has been earlier criticism of Van Gaal following his approach toward games. He remains unconcerned with that, however, as his side are now two wins from the finals and three from lifting the trophy, which will be the first in the nations.
Asked in a post-match conference if winning the trophy is what will grant him respect amongst his peers, the manager said he gets a lot of respect irrespective of any outcomes.
” I have nothing to prove to anyone, and I think I have enough respect from everyone in the game .”He said.
This year’s World cup edition will be the fifth time the Netherlands have secured qualifications out of their last six in the round of 16. They have been able to secure wins with the top spot in their group. Perhaps this could be their year if this superb form continues.
The likes of Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay, and Denzel Dumfries have been able to step up to give their side the much-needed boost in attacking the department as well.
With the next task of creating Argentina, Louis Van Gaal will hope his side be at their very best to stop Lionel Messi-led side.
