Indications have shown that Romelu Lukaku is about to have another stint with Inter Milan.
Having led them to their first Scudetto in the 2020-21 season, Lukaku can’t be forgotten by the Nerazzurri fans. He left the league as the highest goal scorer before moving to Chelsea for €115m.
According to sources in Italy, it is likely that Inter and Chelsea will soon agree on the Belgian. His loan move could be completed by the end of the week.
Lukaku had, in an interview with Skye Sport in December 2021, said he wanted a return to Inter Milan. This has caused some issues within the Chelsea rank, and his game time had also been reduced.
Souce in Italy said the clubs had their first direct contact this week, and it was discovered that their positions were closer than originally thought.
Since Lukaku is now determined to come back to San Siro, it appears Chelsea are content to let him leave even at a loss as he does not fit in with coach Thomas Tuchel’s tactics.
La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia gathered that the initial offer was a one-season loan for €5m plus €2m in performance-related bonuses.
Although Chelsea had rejected the offer but did not give a specific sum, they were looking to make the deal stick. Maybe they expect it to be around €15m.
But they could reach a basic agreement at €10m plus €2m in add-ons. Lukaku is expected to help them to get it over the line by accepting a big wage cut.
Sportitalia also reported that Inter could increase the bid to €7-8m, which might not include performance-related bonuses.
This will be a big coup for Inter, which had received such a huge sum for the lanky striker, only for him to return to San Siro twelve months later.
Since he is familiar with the terrain already, it won’t take any time for Lukalu to resettle with his old teammates.
With Lautaro Martinez still with Inter, their partnership will continue from where it stopped.
