Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos has made a commitment to his long term future with the club after signing a new four-and-a-half-year deal, which sees him remain with the french capital outfit till 2024.
The Brazilian center-back is the vice-captain for the club behind fellow countryman Thiago Silva. He joined the PSG from Italian side Roma back in the summer of 2013 and has helped the club achieved five Ligue 1 trophies over those periods.
The club hierarchy confirmed the signing of the new deal, labeling him as one of the most achieved players in the history of the club.
The player revealed in an interview that it is his desire for him and the club to extend his contract.
“PSG is a club with a lot of history and ambitions that want to achieve great things in football. I feel at home here in this great city, and my family is comfortable.”
“Extending my contract wasn’t a hard choice for me, because I know what I want. This is my seventh season in this club, and I take a look back at how much I have accomplished together with this great club. I want to keep living this excellent story with this club.”
The towering center-back who has won four Coupe de France trophies and five Coupe de la Ligue medals have gathered about 270 appearances for PSG scoring 20 goals with seven assists.
His defensive partner Thiago Silva, having clocked 35-year old last campaign, there have been reports that the club will handover the captaincy band to him[Marquinhos].
However, Marquinhos is not the only player to have signed or willing to pen new deals, midfield maestro Marco Verratti has signed a new contract last October, and the club is looking to tie Kylian Mbappe to make the team reliable and dedicated.
PSG are currently top of the Ligue 1 standings with five points and are aiming to take significant steps forward towards their Champions League campaign as they will face German side Borussia Dortmund in the last 16.
