Milan set to offer Pioli a new contract

    October 5, 2021

AC Milan are ready to reward Stefano Pioli with another contract.

After almost a decade of absence, the former Fiorentina coach seems to have stabilised the side that has returned to the European top flight, Champions League.

According to reports, Milan are in negotiations to extend coach his contract after their best start to a season in almost 20 years.

Milan presently occupies the second spot on the Serie A table with 19 points, which has been their highest tally at this stage since winning the Scudetto in 2003-04.

Although they lost their Champions League ties against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, their 3-2 victory away to Atalanta on Sunday night also boosted confidence

Despite not having any heavy investment in the team, AC Milan showed some promising signs of progress.

Italian media said the club seemed pleased with his performance that they are ready to begin negotiations for a new contract with Pioli, who took over from sacked Marco Giampaolo in October 2019. His current deal expires at the end of this season.

There was a turnaround for Pioli, who was on the verge of being released in July 2020 during advanced talks with Ralf Rangnick. His results made Milan officials change their minds and commit to him.

The 56-year old has recorded 56 wins, 23 draws, and 18 defeats on the Rossoneri bench.

He could be given another short-term deal, but indications have shown that it could be up to a two-year deal that will keep at the club till 2024.

Meanwhile, Milan run of good form continues under Pioli as they are yet to lose any league game this season. They have so far scored 15 goals and conceded five.

They are presently two points behind Napoli while city rivals and defending champions Inter Milan and AS Roma complete the top four with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
