    Norwich City Signs Sebastian Soto

    May 15, 2020

Norwich City reportedly agreed to a deal with young American striker Sebastian Soto.

The 19-year-old American is currently on contract with Hannover and according to German outlet Bild, his deal with the Bundesliga 2 side expires next month.

Per Bild, Soto will move on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal. He will be loaned out by Norwich City next season though, as he won’t initially qualify for a work permit in England.

Soto began his youth career with San Diego Surf. Then he moved to the Real Salt Lake youth team in 2016. He joined Hannover’s youth academy in August 2018 after his rise through the ranks at Real Salt Lake. Soto made a positive first impression at Hannover with 17 goals in 24 appearances for the U-19 team during the 2018-19 season.

Sebastian Soto made his first team debut in the Bundesliga last April, coming as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat at Wolfsburg. The 19-year old made five first team appearances for Hannover. A lot was expected from him following an impressive showing for the US U-20 side at least year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.

However, when it became apparent that he wouldn’t sign a new deal with Hannover, his place in the first team was compromised. He also deal with injuries and overall competition for playing time, which didn’t help.

Soto was born in the US. His father is from Chile father and his mother is of Mexican descent. This means that he is eligible to play for three countries at senior international level.

Norwich City were have also been linked with American brothers, Taylor Booth from Bayern Munich and his younger brother Zach Booth from Real Salt Lake.
