English Premier League side, Norwich City, are interested in signing a new defender in the January transfer window after struggling defensively in the Premier League.
The Canaries are reported to be monitoring defender Chima Okoroji as an option to bolster the defense after the first four months of the Premier League have yielded two wins and one in eleven appearances so far for the team.
The unwanted statistics of goals conceded is only beaten by Southampton’s 27 goals conceded and surprisingly 3goals more than rock bottom Watford.
Daniel Farke’s side are the second-worst team in the league behind Watford after conceding 26 goals in the league and only scoring a paltry 11 goals.
Meanwhile, Chima Okoroji (22-year-old) has shown quality so far in the Bundesliga 2, where he plies his trade for SC Regensburg on loan from Freiburg and could be a valuable addition with his impressive form which includes a goal last weekend in a 3-3 draw against Osnabrück.
His attacking potential has seen him assisted twice aside his goal against Regensburg last Friday, which is his first of the season.
Injury problems so far this season has made the Canaries pair midfielder Alex Tettey in Central Back position in the 0-0 against Bournemouth as well as any other players in various positions other than their natural position.
Also, January recruit from Dynamo Dresden, Philip Heise, has struggled to break into the main team since then, making just one senior appearance in the Carabao Cup against Crawley in August.
Northern Irish defender Jamal Lewis has also been linked with a move away from the Carrow Road in recent times and could leave anytime soon, and it seems that Okoroji could have little competition should he make the move.
.
In Okoroji, Norwich could find a good balance in quality and price bargain in a player who is an English citizen through his mother despite being born in Munich, Germany.
However, according to reports, the Canaries may find it tough to convince the player to join the Championship winners who could drop back instantly due to interests coming from Bayer Leverkusen for the same player.
Norwich will face Watford in their next EPL fixture. The game is set at 1.84 finish with under 2.5 goals, a possible result of over 2.5 goals is given 2.06 odds.
