After falling culprit of missing chances in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough in the first leg of the semi-final of the Carabao Cup a fortnight ago, Cole Palmer is delighted to have been able to make amends in Chelsea’s emphatic 6-1 victory over the same opponents at Stanford Bridge.
Chelsea scored four times in the first half through Jonny Howson’s own goal, Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi and Cole Palmer to erase any hopes for the visitors. Palmer scored a second in the second half and Noni Madueke completed the rout, although Morgan Rogers scored a consolation for the large and noisy away support.
Tuesday’s win for the Blues has delighted Palmer as he was able to make amends with a brace, it also has given him the optimism and confidence that Mauricio Pochettino’s team can win the Carabao Cup in Wembley on the 25th of February.
“After the first game, we knew it’d be difficult but to get the win and go to Wembley for the first time this season, it’s going to be a good day. I missed three sitters in the first game so it was always in the back of my mind coming into this game. To score two and go through to Wembley, I’m happy. We’ve not had the best of starts, there is no hiding it but to go to Wembley is a great opportunity to get a trophy and we’re looking forward to it.” Cole Palmer said.
Meanwhile, Chelsea would have to with for 24 hours to know their final game opponents as Liverpool faces Fulham on Wednesday in the second semi-final.
Jurgen Klopp’s team did a 2-1 comeback win against Fulham at Anfield last time out but Wednesday’s game at Craven Cottage won’t be easy.
Chelsea will hope to get another victory in another cup game at the weekend against Aston Villa in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge before facing Liverpool in the Premier League on January 31.
