Paul Pogba Reveals His Depression Problems

    March 24, 2022

The French midfielder gave an interview to Figaro, where he spoke openly about the depression problems he has been through.

In the revealing interview, Pogba spoke without reservation about this challenging moment he has had to face in his career.

“They judge us every three days; we have to be good all the time,” he commented on the player to refer to the pressures of being a professional soccer player and how this pushed him into a depression.

“Sometimes you don’t know you’re depressed, you just want to isolate yourself and be alone, and those are clear signs,” Pogba added.

“Personally, it started when I was with José Mourinho in Manchester. Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho, the whole world saw it, and the next day you don’t know what happened. That’s the strange thing I had with Mourinho, and I can’t explain it to you because I don’t even know.

“Inevitably, you will feel it in your body, in your head, and you may not feel well for a month, even a year. But you don’t dare say it, at least publicly.”

“Everything is in the head, the mind controls everything, and all elite athletes go through these moments, but few talk about it.”

Pogba also commented that thanks to friends and family, he overcame his problems.

“I focus on my family, my friends. When I can’t do it alone, I talk a lot with ‘Tonton Pat’ (Patrice Evra), former players who have been through this, because they will understand you right away. Talking, being listened to, taking out all that anger and depression that eats away at you is mandatory for me. In football, we are not superheroes, just human beings”.

“You ask yourself questions; you question whether it is your fault because you have never experienced these moments in your life. We earn a lot of money, and we don’t really complain, but that doesn’t stop us from going through more difficult times than others, like everyone else in life,” Pogba reflected.
