Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool can be the perfect stopping stone for Mbappe before he makes his final move to play for Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old France international scored a hat-trick for PSG in their recent Champions League game against Barcelona. He has been one of the brightest young stars in world football for the last couple of years now and has a World Cup to his name as well.
“I’m not joking, it was based on the fact that Liverpool thought they had a decent chance of getting Mbappe when he was at Monaco. I know Jurgen Klopp had spoken to him then and I’m sure other clubs had at that time,” Carragher told CBS Sports.
“When Liverpool were in the Champions League final and won the Champions League a couple of years ago, I think anyone watching Liverpool there with Jurgen Klopp and the support of Anfield, if you’re ever going to go to a club in England before you go to Real Madrid,” he added.
“I think he will, guaranteed, play for Real Madrid at some stage in his career but I’d always feel that maybe Liverpool is that perfect destination for a player like that before you make that next step.”
Carragher also admitted that Manchester City are in the race as well but he feels Mbappe would lean towards the Reds as he has seen him expressing his love for the club on social media a number of occasions.
“It would be Liverpool or Manchester City because they are the two top teams you’d see in the Premier League, but there’s no doubt on social media, he’s put a couple of things out when Liverpool have been playing at home in the Champions League and it’s got us all a little bit excited.”
As far as things for Liverpool stand in the Premier League right now, they are 16 points away from the summit of the table, which is currently occupied by Manchester City. The Reds sit at the sixth place now with 40 points to their name. With only 14 more games to go in the season, they will at least be looking to finish inside the top four.
