PSG thrash Lyon without Mbappe

French Ligue 1 champions Paris Sainte-Germaine recorded a comprehensive win against Olympique Lyon in the league game without their startling Kylian Mbappe.

Luis Enrique has been preparing for life after the 2018 World Cup winner, who is set to join Real Madrid next summer.

The Paris club got the job done at Parc des Princes as record-breaking Marquinhos made his 436th appearance for the club,  going one clear of the legendary Jean-Marc Pilorgetimpressed and Goncalo Ramos bagged a brace in the comfortable win.

PSG inched closer to the league title, all thanks to a first-half blitz that saw them fly out of the blocks with two goals in the opening six minutes.

They went ahead through the Nemanja Matic own-goal from close range before the second from a Lucas Beraldo tap-in.

Goncalo Ramos finished the game beyond doubt in the 32nd minute.

 Ernest Nuamah pulled a goal back for Lyon five minutes later to reduce the deficit. Still, summer signing Ramos grabbed his 11th of the season to finish off a flowing counter-attack just before the break as the hosts eased to victory.

Without the need to bring on Mbappe, PSG went 11 points clear of Monaco, which won at Brest in second with five games remaining.

Having advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League after a 6-4 aggregate win over Barcelona in the last eight, PSG are still in the hunt for a treble.

They will be in action away to Lorient in Ligue 1 on Wednesday night.

Monaco got the job on Sunday at the highly impressive Brest with a two-goal victory.

They have now dislodged opponents into second position, which consolidates their place in the fight for a Champions League spot—next season.

This is the host’s first defeat at the Stade Francis Le Blé since the end of October.

Monaco got into the lead while Brest were claiming a foul from Takumi Minamino on Julien Le Cardinal. Zakaria controlled the ball on the corner of the Brest box, curling a sublime effort past Marco Bizot.

Monaco made it two when Minamio turned Krépin Diatta’s cutback past Bizot to put the game to bed in the second half.
