Chelsea and its new owner Todd Boehly have just closed their first signing of the season.
The ‘blues’ have reached an agreement with Manchester City for Raheem Sterling in exchange for 53 million euros that could rise to 65 depending on different bonuses.
Sterling signs until 2027 with the possibility of extending the contract one more year.
The 27-year-old winger ends seven seasons at the Etihad, where he played a total of 337 games in which he has scored 131 goals and provided 94 assists.
At some point, he became a key player for the team, but in the last season, he lost prominence due to stiff competition from players like Mahrez, Foden, Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, and Jack Grealish.
The little time that Guardiola gave him on the pitch has motivated the player to look for a club where he can see more action. Last season he played a total of 47 games and scored 17 goals and 9 assists, but he only started 32 of them.
Sterling is excited about the new challenge he will face with Chelsea. “Obviously I’ve achieved a lot in my career so far, but there’s still so much more to achieve and I’m really looking forward to doing it in a Chelsea shirt under Thomas,” said Sterling.
He adds: “London is my home and where it all started for me and it’s amazing that I now have the chance to play in front of friends and family week after week at Stamford Bridge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon.”
Chelsea Chairman and Owner Todd Boehly commented on Sterling’s arrival: “Raheem Sterling is a serial winner and his signing is an important step in strengthening our team. We are delighted that Raheem is returning to London with Chelsea and look forward to see his world-class talent on display at Stamford Bridge”
