Real Madrid on Thursday were inflicted with their very first defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu in all competitions this season as Real Sociedad scored four times in a seven-goal thriller.
Even though Real Sociedad ended the game with ten men, the damage had been done since the first half of the game as a Real Madrid player on loan at Sociedad did the damage.
Norwegian youngster, Martin Odeegard scored the away team’s first in the 22nd minute as Sociedad went into the break leading and the one goal was pivotal at the end of the game.
Swede and Sociedad’s revelation of the season, Alexander Isak 20, scored a brace in two minutes, the first in the 54th minute and the second in the 56th minute. The set of goals makes it 11 goals in 11 games for Alex Isak.
The game turned dramatic at that point as moments after Isak’s second goal, the away team’s third of the night, Brazilian defender Marcelo put the Capital club back into the game on the 59th minute.
Isak then did more damage as he assisted Mikel Moreno ten minutes later to drag the game further beyond the grasp of Zinedine Zidane’s men.
Rodrigo and Vinicius Jnr combined in the 81st minute to set up a spectacular finish for the game as the Los Blancos sought for two more goals to send the game into extra time.
However, it was one goal that Madrid was able to get as Nacho’s 93rd-minute strike was too little too late, knocking them out of the contention for Copa Del Rey.
In the other game on Thursday, Barcelona were beaten with a stoppage-time goal at the San Mames by Athletic Club as Inaki Williams broke the Catalans’ hearts.
Barcelona were recently thrown into controversy due to comments made by Messi and Eric Abidal during the week, but club President Josep Bartomeu had stepped confirming that the ex France defender will keep his job.
