Robert Lewandowski has fuelled speculation that Bayern Munich are lining up a move for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.
The 23-year-old Germany international has been linked with a move to Bavaria after he started only 21 games in the Premier League for Pep Guardiola’s domestic treble-winning side last season.
While Bayern’s president Uli Hoeness confirmed they were interested in signing Sane last month, he also stressed that they wouldn’t be parting with ‘insane money’ to complete the deal. Striker Lewandowski appears confident that the move will happen with summer.
“Bayern’s German players are now very much looking forward to Sane’s signing, but we have to wait and see what is going on,” Lewandowski told Goal. With stalwarts like Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben exiting the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, Bayern require reinforcements in the wide areas.
“They [Robben and Ribery] are legends, of course their departure is sad,” Lewandowski added.
“But Bayern will also sign more and better replacements. I believe that the winger Bayern will sign in the future will be as good as Robben and Ribery. “In order to have a good performance next season and to overcome Dortmund, I hope that Bayern can do something in the transfer market this summer.”
Sane joined City from Schalke in 2016 for £37m and has won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup, though he was a surprise omission from the Germany squad for last summer’s World Cup in Russia before Joachim Low’s side crashed out at the group stage.
Bayern are 1.25 to retain their Bundesliga crown next season, with Borussia Dortmund 6.00 and RB Leipzig currently trading at 15.00.
