Ahead of the summer window, Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli is hoping to sign three of four top players.
The former Sevilla manager admitted that some players will leave the club this summer as he also looks forward to signing at least three or four new additions to his squad.
Speaking with RMC, before OM’s final Ligue 1 mid-week game of the season, the Argentine said the club, in parallel to the matches, are, working with the scouts and the staff.
According to him, discussions have been held with David Friio and Pablo Longoria about preparations for next season a lot and the names of players that will be valuable to the team.
While noting some players will definitely leave, Sampaoli pointed out that the most important thing is to keep the base of the team, adding that three or four players who can raise the club’s level are what they look forward to.
He also pointed out that wooing such big players will depend on whether the club that is currently second on the Ligue 1 table will qualify for the Champions League.
He further revealed that there will be a meeting with the owner to propose names to him.
Meanwhile, Marseille have to be wary of those fighting for the Champions League spots in the league,
They are just three points behind Renne, while Niece is just five points behind them.
A resurgent AS Monaco that will welcome OGC Nice to the Stade Louis II on Wednesday for a crucial Côte d’Azur derby can’t be overlooked as well, with six games remaining in the league.
They will hope that Monaco, which is currently fifth on the log with 53 points, six points behind them, will at least play a draw to close the gap a bit.
Sampaoli’s men will prefer to automatically qualify for the top European competition alongside PSG, who needs to win the next game to win the league, then finishing out of the top two that will require qualifying games.
The top two clubs will qualify automatically for the Champions League group stage, while the team that finishes third will enter in the third qualifying round.
The fourth-place team will play in the Europa League, while the fifth will enter the Europa Conference League.
