The Project Restart for the Premier League suffered a big setback as six players tested positive for the coronavirus with the affected players across three clubs.
The tests were carried out between Sundays and Monday as the Premier League prepares for a June resumption. The clubs resumed training on Tuesday.
However, the affected players and officials will be isolated for seven days. 748 players and staff across 19 clubs were tested, while the remaining club will have its test on Tuesday.
No Premier League game has taken place since the 13th of March, and there are 92 matches still left to be played.
Several meetings have been held by Premier League clubs with the 12th of June picked as a date for a possible resumption of the league, but it is expected to be pushed back.
“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency, No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the league and results will be made public in this way after each round of testing.” the Premier League stated in a statement.
A project restart meeting between Premier League clubs on Monday saw the teams agree to start the first stage of the return-to-training
Aside from the fact that players should train in small groups of not more than 5 players and sessions of 75 minutes at most with strict social distancing measures to be adhered to.
Furthermore, playing surfaces, goalposts, cones, balls, corner flags all to be disinfected after each and every training.
Germany became the first country in Europe’s top five leagues to resume its league, although matches were played behind closed doors while there were also social distancing measures in place with players told not to spit or celebrated excessively.
