After Norwich City’s 5-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the English Premier League last weekend, the Canaries sporting director, Stuart Webber has urged fans at the Carrow Road to play their part very well in the team’s campaign this season.
While speaking in an interview conducted by Norwich City’s official website, Webber explained that not only the players were below par in the 5-1 loss against Villa, City fans’ level was also low at Carrow Road on that afternoon.
According to Webber, the fans were not as impressive as they were during last season’s promotion run in the Championship as well as during the 3-2 victory over Premier League Champions, Manchester City.
While admitting that recreating the same emotions that fans had against Manchester City was difficult. According to him, fans have become more relaxed and passive in their emotions in the team’s subsequent games after creating one of the best atmosphere he has ever experienced in football stadiums across the world in the game against Pep Guardiola’s team.
While the team can’t produce the same excellent performance every week, and the fans as well can’t generate similar atmosphere every week, fans need to be on top of their game from the start. In Webber’s words he said: “We do need that support, and I felt against Villa from the start that it was quite flat”
However, he urged fans to make the Carrow Road a difficult place to play for visiting teams just as it was against Newcastle and Chelsea.
Speaking on the team’s performance in the English Premier League so far this season, Webber expressed satisfaction in the performance of the Canaries both on and off the pitch while admitting that the recent injury crisis that has hit the team is the reason for the recent poor results.
Furthermore, he stated that the players need to keep a cool head to see out an extremely long season and avoid relegation, while also hailing the team’s summer recruits claiming they have managed to settle well.
