Germany’s forward Timo Werner has put his weight behind Argentina to go all the way in the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will take place later in the year in Qatar. Argentina are in fine form in the recent past and they have been undefeated in their last 33 consecutive matches.
La Albiceleste recently defeated Euro 2020 champions Italy by 3-0 in Finalissima after Lionel Messi provided two assists to his teammates. Subsequently, the Men in White and Blue thrashed Estonia by 5-0 in the Friendly clash with Messi scoring all the five goals.
Argentina was knocked out in the previous edition of the FIFA World Cup 2018 by Croatia in the quarterfinals but they now have a more balanced team.
Timo Werner told reporters (as per Roy Nemer): “Argentina are brilliant. We saw it against Italy, they scored three goals against them in that final. I think they are favorites at the World Cup.”
On the other hand, the German striker recently scored a brace in his team’s 5-2 win against Italy, which was their first win in the UEFA Nations League after three successive draws against Hungary, England, and Italy.
Werner added that he is still trying to work on some aspects of his game.
He told UEFA.com (per Bulinews): “Of course it was nice to score twice tonight, goals are always enjoyable. I always try to give my best for the team so it was nice to be rewarded with two goals. I’m still working on other aspects of my game though, because there were things I did well and a few things I didn’t.
“We wanted to get at our opponents early and disrupt their game which we managed to do very well tonight. This was the first match out of the four where we were able to dominate the game, execute our pressing and show what we’re really capable of.”
Meanwhile, Messi and co. will begin their FIFA World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22. Subsequently, they will take on Mexico and Poland in Group C of the tournament. On the other hand, Germany is drawn with Spain, Japan, and Costa Rica.
