Chelsea Defender Thiago Silva has rallied his teammates towards preparing for next season if they want to avoid the disaster of the 2022/2023 season from repeating itself.
The Blues will go trophyless this season after they were knocked out of the only competition they could possibly win on Tuesday with a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge and a 4-0 aggregate elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
The Londoners have had to change managers four times this season, and the recently hired interim manager Frank Lampard is yet to win in the four games he has handled.
This has left the team in 12th position on the Premier League table and out of sight for European places; the Blues were also knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup earlier in the season.
Tuesday’s defeat was described by manager Frank Lampard as a good performance, but he also mentioned that he will not let any player off the hook if they fail to give one hundred per cent in the remaining games of the season.
Chelsea has seven matches left to be played in the Premier League this season, and while Lampard may not continue as the manager of Chelsea next season, Thiago Silva, who has signed a contract extension, has demanded a strategy to be put in place for next season.
“It’s a difficult moment for the club, with a lot of indecision. A positive point is that there are amazing players within the squad, but on the other hand, there are always players that are going to be unhappy. We need to stop and put a strategy in place; otherwise, next season, we could make the same mistakes.” Thiago Silva said.
In the aftermath of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League elimination, club legend Didier Drogba claimed that he could not recognise his club, the same club he won the UEFA Champions League title with in 2012.
