UCL: Atalanta Thrash Valencia 4-1 As Spurs Lose to Leipzig

    February 20, 2020

Italian Serie A side, Atalanta, showed their goal scoring prowess in the first leg of their round of 16 clashes with Spanish side Valencia.

The Italians got into the lead through Hans Hateboer in the 16th minute from an Alejandro Gomez assist.

Josep Illicic extended the lead in the 42nd minute of the game as Atalanta dominated into the break.

In the second half, Remo Freuler scored his side’s third goal of the game in the 57th minute as the team ran riot.

Hans Hateboer scored one more in the 62nd minute, but former Real Madrid player Denis Cheryshev scored and pulled one back in the 66th minute.

The win is the third successive win for the Serie A side in all competitions, while Valencia has now lost three games in their last four.

The second leg of the game is on the 10th of March, but before then, Atalanta would battle Sassuolo, Lecce, and Lazio.

Meanwhile, Valencia will face Real Sociedad, Betis, and Alaves before the visit of Atalanta to the Mestalla on the 10th of March.

In the other game on Wednesday evening, Tottenham Hotspur failed to perform as German Clubside RB Leipzig pipped Jose Mourinho’s side by a lone goal.

The North London club had earlier lost Harry Kane to injury in January before another blow dealt to the team with the arm fracture of South Korean forward Son Heung-min keeping him out of the game on both legs.

A Timo Werner penalty in the 58 minutes gave Leipzig the much needed away goal, away win and a clean sheet that may be very vital in the second leg on the 10th of March.

Before the second leg, RB Leipzig will face Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga while Spurs will face Chelsea in a London Derby this weekend while they will host Wolves.

There is also an FA Cup clash against Norwich and an EPL tie against Burnley before the return leg.
