After the UEFA Champions League round of 16 draws made in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday afternoon, Real Madrid and Liverpool will clash again for a rematch of the Champions League final played in Paris, France.
The finale for last season, which was played in May, saw Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 courtesy of a Vinicius Jr’s goal to lift the trophy.
Since then, Liverpool has had to endure a poor start to their Premier League life, having lost Sadio Mane, who moved to Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid has had an excellent start to the season in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League finishing first in their group that had Shakhtar Donetsk, Celtic and German club RB Leipzig.
On the other hand, Liverpool got past Rangers, won, and lost one of their two-legged fixtures against Napoli while beating Ajax to finish second behind the Italians in their group.
The Los Blancos, before Monday night’s clash in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano, was second in La Liga after Barcelona’s victory at the weekend against Almeria. A win against Vallecano will return Carlo Ancelotti’s side to the top of the table.
Elsewhere, Chelsea will face Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain will have another repeat of the UEFA Champions League final from 2020, which saw the Germans emerge as Champions.
RB Leipzig will face familiar foes Manchester City, there is a clash between AC Milan and Tottenham. Meanwhile, Napoli’s tests in the round of 16 are UEFA Europa League champions Frankfurt.
FC Porto will face Inter Milan, and club Brugge will face Portugal club side Benfica.
