Unbelievable Last-Minute Header from Alisson Becker Keeps Liverpool’s Season Alive

    May 20, 2021

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson scored the winner in the 94th minute against West Bromwich. Liverpool won what was a must-win situation, 2-1, as Alisson became the first goalkeeper to score for Liverpool in the club’s 129-year history.

“Football is my life,” Alisson said after the match. I have played since I remember as a human being with my father. I hope he was here to see it. I am sure he is celebrating.”

His father passed away earlier this year.

Alisson scored the first headed goal by a goalkeeper in Premier League history.

“We needed Ali to sort it, the header was unbelievable,” added Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool needed three points from this match to keep mathematical hope alive for a Champions League bid. They need to finish this Premier League campaign in the top-four.

With the match tied 1-1 in the 94th minute, the season looked to be all but over.

“Just scoring this goal, I’m really, really happy to help them because they fight a lot, we fight a lot together and we have a strong goal to achieve the Champions League because we won it once and you know that everything started with qualification,” Alisson added. “I can’t be more happy than I am now.”

The win now puts the Reds one point behind fourth-place Chelsea.

“We have to watch and re-watch that goal because it’s so emotional for us, not just for our Champions League chances but for Alli with what we has been through this year, so we are so happy for him,” Liverpool’s Thiago said of the moment.

Liverpool dominated possession 76-24, but had just six shots on goal out of 26 shots overall.

Liverpool are back in action this Wednesday, 19 May vs Burnley before the season wraps up the Sunday after vs Crystal Palace.
