Valencia Sack Javi Gracia After Barcelona Loss

    May 4, 2021

Spanish La Liga side Valencia has sacked its manager Javi Gracia on Monday after just 10 months on the job.

The former Watford coach was shown the exit on Monday after losing 3-2 to Barcelona at home with the club releasing a statement to the effect.

“The club wants to publicly thank [Gracia] for his work and dedication during these months leading the team and wishes him the best of success for the future,” Valencia said in a statement.

The result saw Valencia drop to within just six points of the relegation with four games to go in the season having won just 8 matches all season.

Gracia joined Valencia from Watford in 2019 after being at the Vicarage road for a year. Gracia has also managed Rubin Kazan, Osasuna, Almeria among other clubs.

Valencia, who have won six La Liga titles in their history, is in 14th position and they have gone with Assistant manager Salvador Gonzalez leading the team on an interim basis.

57-year old Voro has been with Valencia as an interim and assistant manager on several instances since joining the club in 2002 but he has never taken charge on a permanent basis.

Valencia will face Valladolid in the next La Liga game at the Mestalla at the weekend before facing Sevilla away from home.

They will face Eibar in a home match before travelling to Huesca for the last game of the season away from home.

Valencia’s last five matches have seen them lost 2 and drawn the other 3 matches, sitting in 14th with 36 points from 34 matches.

Valencia may be in the 14th position but Los Murciélagos are not safe from relegation as they are just six points away from Huesca who sits in the 18th position with just 30 points.
