WCQ: Osihmen Scores As Nigeria Beats CAR in Douala

    October 11, 2021

Nigeria had their pound of flesh on Central African Republic on Sunday afternoon after Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen scored to return the Super Eagles to winning ways.

The Super Eagles lost the first leg days ago in Lagos when Central African Republic produced a shocker with a 1-0 win.

However, the 2013 AFCON winner took control of the second leg played in CAR adopted home in Douala Cameroon from start to finish.

Glasgow Rangers defender Leon Balogun scored the first goal in the 29th minute after a cross into the box from Chidozie Awaziem.

His defensive partner William Troost-Ekong, who plays for Watford in the Premier League, provided the second when Napoli forward Victor Osimhen turned in his layback just before half time.

Osimhen should have made it 3-0 in the second half but his effort, after rounding up the goalkeeper, was cleared off the line by a defender.

Nevertheless, Nigeria kept it up for their third win of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers to go 9 points at the top of the table.

Nigerian skipper Ahmed Musa reached a milestone of 100 games for Nigeria after starting the game.

The next stop for Nigeria is an away trip to Liberia in November before a home tie against Cape Verde.

Furthermore, Cape Verde beat Liberia 1-0 on Sunday as they kept in touching distance with Nigeria at the top of the table.

Nigeria has 9 points from 4 games while Cape Verde follows in second place with seven points while CAR are in third with 4 points while Liberia are bottom with 3.

Meanwhile, Tanzania beat Benin republic 1-0 in Benin after losing the first leg at home to the Tanzanians a few days ago.

Uganda also got the better of Rwanda 1-0 while Mali beat Kenya 1-0. It was the same scoreline between Madagascar and DR Congo but it was the former who emerged victorious.

Zambia and Equatorial Guinea also shared the spoils with a 1-1 scoreline.
