We were not good enough – Erik Ten Hag on Manchester United’s loss against Aston Villa

Manchester United suffered a ignominious loss of 3-1 against Aston Villa at the Villa Park on Sunday. Leon Bailey and Lucas Digne scored in the first 11 minutes of the game to give a commanding 2-0 lead to their team.

Jacob Ramsey then scored an own goal to make it 2-1 for Manchester United. However, Ramsey was able to redeem himself as he scored in the 49th minute to give a 3-1 lead to his team.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag admitted that the team was not good enough on the day and the scoreline doesn’t lie. The visitors took only three shots on target despite dominating the possession with 59%.

“We lost the game at the start of first half and second half and that is not acceptable,” Ten Hag admitted to BBC Match of the Day. “They looked more fresh and more ready. We need to be more sharp. The result is really clear. It never lies. Today we were not good enough. We didn’t get the right organisation. We created chances and good chances at 2-1. But you are really disappointed to concede at the start of the second half.”

The Dutchman admitted that they could have been better on the ball.

He added to Sky Sports: “It’s not acceptable that you concede a goal so quickly in the second half on the counter. Our players are experienced. You have to read the game and get the organisation right. Not concede two goals [early in the game] – that’s totally unnecessary. You have to win your battles. At the start of the game we could have been better on the ball. It starts with the players following the rules.

It was a disappointing performance from Manchester United as they suffered their fourth loss of the season.

United will once again take on Aston Villa, this time in the Carabao Cup on Thursday at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will then travel to Fulham on Sunday for the Premier League clash and it will be their last match before the FIFA World Cup.
