The Norwegian manager of the Red Devils has marked Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund as his main target for the transfer market for months.
Since then, Man U has been preparing everything to be the first to present an offer for the 20-year-old player from Camberwell, England.
Before Manchester United made the first move, Borussia Dortmund stepped forward and marked the player’s price at €120 million. The Dortmund board has no intention of selling the player, and it seems that it has set this price to discourage the plans of Man U and any other club that wants to go after Sancho.
Michael Zörc, Dortmund’s sporting director, hopes the player will stay at Signal Iduna Park. “Jadon is an exceptional player with a level that I have never seen at his age. I think it is even one of the best in the world. The current state of affairs is that he is here and that he has a contract with us until 2022.”
Under other circumstances, the €120 million would not be a complicated figure for the Red Devils, who in 2016 paid €105 million to Juventus for Paul Pogba. But currently, Man U has to analyze its expenses very well, since their finances have received a hard blow due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Solskjaer will have to justify hiring Sancho very well if he wants the board to sign such a fat check these days.
In case Jadon’s pricing strategy doesn’t work and Manchester United agrees to all the terms, Dortmund already has a plan B. Memphis Depay from Olympique Lyon would be the club’s objective to replace Sancho. It is speculated that there have already been approaches between BVB and Depay, who has expressed his interest in moving to a club that will play the Champions League next season.
