Davis Love III Loses House To Fire, No Casualties Recorded

    March 29, 2020

Major Championship winner and two-time U.S Ryder Cup captain, Davis Love III, revealed that he lost his house at St. Simons Island, Georgia, to a fire in the early hours of Friday morning.

There were no casualties in the fire, however. Love, together with his wife, were in the house together when the fire started but were able to make a way out of the house in time.

Love, in a statement, said that although everyone in the house is saddened at the loss of their home, they are more gladdened by the fact that everyone was safe and unharmed.

“While everyone in our family is saddened at the loss of our home that was filled with so much laughter and incredible memories, we’re very blessed that everyone is safe and unharmed.”

The two-time Ryder Captain, in his statement, expressed his thanks for the first responders who, according to him, did all within their ability to save their home even as the world grapples with an unprecedented health crisis.

According to the fire chief for Glynn County Fire and Rescue, who goes by the name Randy Jordan said a first responder came to the scene 6 minutes after a 911 call came through. The 911 call was made to the fire department at about 5:18 am. The fire chief said the home was already engulfed in flames before the arrival of his team. He also said that the source of the fire was yet to be known.

Davis Love, 55, had a stellar golf career, posting 21 wins on the PGA Tour. This includes the 1997 PGA Championship, a competition he still participates in up to date. The most recent of his tour event wins came in the 2015 Wyndham Classic.

However, his 1997 PGA Championship was the only major triumph of his career. The 55-year-old competes in the PGA Tour Champions as well and is currently in his first year as an on-course reporter for CBS Sport.

The 21-time PGA Tour winner claimed a spot in the World Golf Hall of fame in 2017. Love guided the United States to victory over Europe at Hazeltine some four years ago.
