World number two, Rory McIlroy has expressed that his chances of winning the Race to Dubai tour is quite slim.
McIlroy, who will play his own dad at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, an event he has won a stunning three times, has a shot at completing ‘the double’ and finishing the year as European number 1 for a third time, despite the fact that he is on the 24th spot of the tournament.
The tight scheduling he currently faces until the end of the year would take a toll on his performance, no doubt. All these have made the PGA Tour Player Of The Year winner say that his performance at the Road to Dubai tour may be limited, and victory seems out of reach.
The Northern Irishman is billed to appear in two other European Championship competitions this season after this week, at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. According to him, “I wouldn’t be too confident about doing the double…I’m just not playing enough to do that. I’m playing here, then I’m going to the Far East to play a PGA Tour event in Japan and then play in China, which is a co-sanctioned event, and then play Dubai.”
At the same time, he also expressed he might just pull up a surprise performance, “I’m probably not playing enough to win the Race to Dubai, but you never know if I win a couple and at least give myself a chance.” Well, with the world number 2, one can always hope for the best.
Coming into Scotland for the Alfred Dunhill Championship, Rory McIlroy has quite a record. The past few months have seen him finish in the top 20 spots in the last six worldwide events. That adds up to give him a record 16 top 10 spots so far in 2019 alone. McIlroy made a stunning comeback at the just concluded BMW PGA European Championship in Wentworth where he started at the 76th position to finish in the top 10 spots.
