Jon Rahm is excited about pursuing new goals after a spectacular start to the season. The World No. 1 golfer recently clinched his fourth win of the year and second major title by taking home the coveted green jacket at the Masters.
He previously won the US Open at Torrey Pines almost two years ago and has now emerged as a strong favourite to defend his Mexico Open title this week.
Despite having only a week to celebrate his triumph at Augusta National, Rahm has expressed his eagerness to get back to playing. At a pre-tournament press conference at Vidanta Vallarta, he admitted that he wished he could have had more rest, but added that it was the life he had signed up for as a professional golfer.
Rahm also acknowledged that he celebrated his win on Tuesday, which delayed his recovery a little, but he is glad to be back in a relaxing spot, surrounded by great amenities, food, people, and weather. The 28-year-old is in great form this year, and is hoping to defend his title at the Mexico Open.
He explained that he has only been able to defend the Spanish Open as a professional, and it would not be the worst thing if he could make the Mexico Open his next defense. When asked if his recent Masters win had forced him to reassess his goals for the season, Rahm revealed that he had to reassess his targets even before winning the tournament.
One of his objectives was to win multiple times again on the PGA Tour, and he had already won his first two events. After his third win in Los Angeles, he realized that he needed to reset because he was getting close to accomplishing everything he had set his mind to. However, he sees this as an amazing thing since it means he is exceeding his expectations.
The Spaniard went on to say that he had a day with his mental coach to talk about things, reassess, and refocus on what they wanted to achieve in the year. He believes that resetting or refreshing goals is a wonderful thing to do, especially when one is exceeding expectations. Rahm is optimistic about his prospects this season and is looking forward to taking on new challenges.
