Just a week after winning his second Masters title, Scottie Scheffler has followed it up with another impressive victory, this time at the RBC Heritage, where he finished with a 3 shot lead on Monday.
The American ended the event at 19 under par, with a final round play of three-under-par 68. The game would have finished on Sunday as planned, but it was impacted by rain, which paused the game for a few hours before the game was brought to an end to resume the next day.
The win makes Scheffler the first person since Tiger Woods to win four out of their last five starts. He is also the first man since 1985 to win the RBC Heritage after conquering the Masters. The 27-year-old continues to set new records while delivering some of the finest performances witnessed in a long while.
Scheffler resumed Monday’s game with a five-shot advantage, which was a clear indication that he would have won on Sunday had the game not come to an abrupt halt. A bogey and birdies from the rest of the pack cut his lead by two shot, but he still sailed to victory with a good score.
Speaking after the match Scheffler explained what could be the reason behind his impressive performance these past few games: “Last week was fantastic and then coming into this week, I didn’t have my usual prep work. Showed up, rested, ready to go. Got off to a slow start on Thursday, but then I played some really nice golf in the middle of the tournament.
“I’m just maturing as a person on the course. I think the last month or so has been as good as I’ve been mentally in a long time. I think that’s why I’m seeing some of the results, you know, just staying in it and doing the best I can. A lot of that stuff is easier said than done, but I’m proud of how I’ve been mentally on the course the last bit.”
