Veteran driver, Fernando Alonso, has expressed his belief that Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari will transform the Italian team into championship contenders in the upcoming 2025 season.
Alonso highlighted the fact that Ferrari’s car has been quite competitive and that they have what it takes to be contenders, adding that Hamilton could be the missing piece in their puzzle. “Ferrari had a very fast car and were fighting for big things. Maybe Lewis can bring that extra to fight for the championship. The car is there.
“Even last year, with a very dominant Red Bull car, Ferrari were able to match the lap time and be faster than them in most of the qualifyings, so the car should be fast enough.”
As Alonso contemplates his own future in Formula 1, he remains open to various possibilities, including the prospect of securing Hamilton’s seat at Mercedes. However, Alonso reiterated his allegiance to Aston Martin, emphasizing that any discussions about his future would commence with his current team.
Acknowledging his unique status as a fast and experienced world champion, Alonso remains confident in his appeal to prospective teams for the 2025 season. While Aston Martin remains his top priority, Alonso recognizes the potential for new opportunities should negotiations with his current team prove inconclusive.
He said: “I am aware of my situation, which is unique. There are only three world champions on the grid, and fast world champions, because in the past maybe there were some champions who were maybe not so committed to be fast. And I am probably the only one available for 2025. So I am in a good position.
“But at the same time, when I make the decision whether I want to keep racing in the future, the first and only talk I will have in the beginning will be with Aston Martin. That will be my only priority.”
Alonso’s strategic approach to his future highlights his unwavering commitment to excellence while navigating the complexities of team dynamics and driver negotiations, as well as his belief in his competitors, as they ultimately shape the future of F1.
