    Perez Wins Drama-filled Monaco GP

    May 30, 2022

Sergio Perez finished first on Sunday to claim victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, a race that was marked with drama, which included delays and collusion. The race was first delayed for over an hour due to rain, a move that was criticised by fans of the sport on social media.

Then, about halfway into the race, Mick Schumacher crashed his car, splitting it in half, which caused the race to come to a halt. At the end of the day, Perez claimed his first Monaco GP victory, with Carlos Sainz coming in second while Perez’s teammate, Max Verstappen, finished third.

After the race was started, Perez was able to steal the lead from Charles Leclerc, who finished fourth, just after the fourth lap. Leclerc had a bad day, but it was better than the Spanish GP, where he failed to finish. Red Bull employed a strategy that saw both of their drivers make the podium in a race track that is popular for its many twists and turns, which was further complicated by the wet grounds.

Midway into the race, Haas driver, Mick Schumacher, crashed his car but was lucky to escape unharmed. The crash caused the race to be stopped for a while, but when it began, little change as the top four still maintained their position, with Perez leading, Sainz behind, Verstappen following after while Leclerc completed the formation.

The face finished at the 65th lap, 12 laps shorter than normal due to the delays that occurred before and during the race. After the race, Ferrari lodged complaints, accusing Red Bull of alleged pit exit infringements, but they were cleared by the stewards, who found no wrongdoing.

Although Verstappen finished third, he still tops the leaderboard, nine points ahead of Leclerc, who is just six points ahead of Perez.
