Verstappen claims 100th win for Red Bull with Canadian GP victory

    June 19, 2023

Max Verstappen etched his name in Formula 1 history with a stunning performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, securing Red Bull Racing’s monumental 100th victory. His remarkable display of skill and determination on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve highlighted his status as a true champion.

Verstappen’s dominant win, his sixth of the season, propelled him to the elite company of Ayrton Senna, joining the top five all-time F1 winners with 41 victories. The Canadian Grand Prix allowed him to display his unwavering talent and cement his place among the sport’s greats.

The race unfolded with exhilarating battles for podium positions. Fernando Alonso returned to form, claiming a well-deserved second place, while Lewis Hamilton, resilient as ever, ended the race with a commendable third-place finish.

Hamilton initially took the lead over Alonso at the start, but a Safety Car period caused by George Russell’s incident reshuffled the field. Alonso seized the opportunity to regain his position and defended it masterfully, despite facing rear brake issues.

Red Bull Racing’s victory margin was their closest of the season, with Alonso finishing just 9.5 seconds behind Verstappen. The thrilling competition kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the race.

Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, and Sergio Perez capitalized on strategic decisions during the Safety Car period, securing fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively. Their impressive performances showcased their ability to navigate the challenges and move up the field.

Alex Albon’s remarkable drive delivered Williams their best result since the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, with a commendable seventh-place finish. He held off Esteban Ocon of Alpine in the closing stages, providing a moment of celebration for the team.

However, not all fortunes were favorable. Lando Norris received a five-second time penalty for driving too slowly behind the Safety Car, demoting him to 13th place in the final standings. Lance Stroll capitalized on the opportunity, securing a notable ninth place in front of his home crowd, with Valtteri Bottas completing the top 10.
