Andy Murray has leveled up as he is set to compete in the quarterfinals of the China Open after beating Cameron Norrie. The Wednesday game ended 7-6 6-7 6-1. The game was a very competitive one, as they both were initially tied, before Murray dished out all his best emerging victorious in the last game with a wide scoreline.
It is good to see Murray shine again after being down and out following a hip surgery in January. The surgery, though for his own good, saw his career plummet and as of last week, the former world number 1 was the world number 413.
He won his match against Tennys Sandgren last week, and that was, according to him, “one of the best wins I have had.” Speaking on today’s game, he said, “I tried to shorten the points a lot at the end of the second set and third set. I was trying to play more aggressive and was coming to the net a lot more.” No doubt, he put in a lot of work to secure his win.
His latest win would clear any prior assumption and negative opinion held against him. But you cannot really fault such opinions as it is not every day a player having undergone an intense surgery comes back to perform well in big games. This is his second consecutive win after beating Matteo Berrettini.
As for Cameron Norrie, no one can say he did not play well, as the British number three showed the stuff he was made off, breaking Murray in the second set, and forcing a tiebreaker which he lost.
Murray’s next game would be on Friday against Australian Dominic Thiem.
Andy Murray is pegged at 2.66 to win his next fixture, while his opponent Dominic Thiem is available at 1.46 to claim the win.
