Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu recently had an encounter against Garbine Muguruza of Spain in the fourth round at the Miami Open where the Canadian stunned the 2016 Roland Garros winner to power her way through to the quarterfinals.
Andreescu lost the first set but then she fought valiantly and came back in the game only to defeat the in-form Spaniard. She won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and now will face another Spaniard in Sara Sorribes Tormo in the battle of the last eight.
Muguruza who was evidently disappointed after her defeat said that she had a few chances to win the match but she failed to convert them.
“It was a very even game, there was a lot of levels and I feel that I had opportunities to win, especially in the second set,” she admitted at the post match press conference.
The 27-year-old also revealed that she has been battling a lot of pain and was not at her physical best during the match. “The physical side of things has been decisive. I had been playing with pain for days and today it limited me a lot. But I remain positive,” added the 2-time Grand Slam winner.
The Spaniard has had a phenomenal start to 2021 as she won the Dubai Tennis Championships and was the runners-up at the WTA Melbourne 500 and also at the Qatar Open. Therefore despite losing to Andreescu she is happy with her progress and how the way she is playing at the moment.
“I take the positive of this great start to the year. I am happy with the way I am playing and I am already looking at the tournaments on clay,” concluded the World No. 13.
Muguruza is preparing herself for the upcoming clay-court season and she will be featuring in some of the clay-court events in the coming days. If she manages to keep her form she will definitely emerge victorious in some of them. The main aim of all this preparation has to be for a solid performance at the Roland Garros this year. Even in the past, Muguruza has shown that if she plays her best tennis she can be a very difficult opponent, especially on clay courts.
