Tennis legend Rafael Nadal is always a favourite to win the French Open 2020. Nadal has a great record at the Roland Garros and he would be aiming for his 13th French Open title. However, Nadal didn’t have a great return to competitive Tennis as he was knocked out of the Italian Open after his loss to Argentine youngster Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Nadal is the undisputed king of clay and his record at the French Open is staggering. The Spainiard has a win-loss of 93-2 at the Roland Garros and he would aim to continue his domination in the ongoing French Open.
On the other hand, Nadal has admitted that slow Wilson balls and heavier conditions in Paris might not suit his game. Furthermore, Nadal is in a tough draw and his road to the finals will not be a cakewalk. Thus, he would need to be at the top of his game to clinch another title at the French Open.
However, Henri Leconte, former French Open finalist of 1988, has backed Rafael Nadal to go all the way in the tournament.
“If you lose in Rome it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to win at Roland Garros. Sometimes it’s better to lose early and be ready for the French Open. You have to be ready at the key points (of the circuit), in the big ones, and that’s what matters,” said Leconte in an interview with Eurosport.
On the other hand, the World number one Novak Djokovic will enter the French Open after winning his 36th ATP 1000 Masters title at the Italian Open. Djokovic will look to carry his good form and he will be high on confidence. The Serbian was disqualified from the US Open.
“Novak is a true champion, he is a true world number one and he really deserved what he just did. For someone who just suffered what happened at the US Open, he reacted like a champion,” said Leconte.
