I don’t know how to handle the pressure, admits Carlos Alcaraz on playing in Grand slam matches

    August 1, 2022

Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that he still don’t know how to handle the pressure in big Grand slam matches. The Spaniard had lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal of the French Open, in which he was one of the favorite to go all the way.

Following that, Alcaraz lost to Jannik Sinner in Round-of-16 in Wimbledon in four-set contest. There is no doubt that Alcaraz has shown the skills to go a long way in his career but needs to hold his nerves in order to win his first Major title.

The 19-year-old recently made the cut into the top-5 ranking after making it to the final of Hamburg European Open but he lost to Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz will take on Jannik Sinner in the final of the Croatia Open on Sunday.

“When facing the challenge of a Grand Slam, the fundamental thing is the mental aspect because to face matches of four or five hours, you have to be very prepared,” Alcaraz said.

“I think I wasn’t at my best in that particular aspect and I didn’t know how to handle the pressure and nerves in the best possible way.

Alcaraz added that his goal is to become the World no.1 one day and he wants to keep working hard.

“I consider that I have completed one stage and now another begins,” he explained.

“In it, I see that I have four players ahead of me that I have to surpass in order to meet my big goal, which is to be number one in the world, and I will work hard to achieve it.”

Alcaraz has ticked the right boxes in his young career and he is taking the right steps. The Spaniard has a never give-up attitude on the court, which can help him get to new heights in his career.
