Wimbledon 2022 runner-up Nick Kyrgios has claimed that he would have won his first Major title had he faced anyone else but Novak Djokovic in the final. Kyrgios won the first set against the Serbian but former the World no.1 bounced back in style to take the next three sets to win his 21st Grand slam title.
Kyrgios was serving bullets against Djokovic in the final and was ticking the right boxes on his serve. The Australian smashed 30 aces against the Serbian and won 71% on his first serve. However, he was up against one of the best returners of the game and Djokovic was able to come up with the answers which Kyrgios had posted in front of him.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios has one of the best serves in the game and he has a potent game on grass. Since Kyrgios’ toss of the ball is the same for all of his serves, it is difficult for his opponent to know which way he would be serving, which gives him an advantage.
“Honestly, I feel as if my first slam final was impressive, next time I would try to ride the emotional wave a little smoother but I realise how much was on the line. I feel if I was up against anyone else but Djokovic in the final with the way I served that day, I would [have] won,” Kyrgios said in Q&A on Instagram.
Kyrgios is well known for his antics on the court and he is mostly complaining, whining, and abusing. While answering another question, Kyrgios said that people often confuse his confidence for arrogance and they don’t know about his journey.
“People tend to confuse my confidence for arrogance because they’ve no idea what I’ve been through,” Kyrgios responded to the question.
