I’m very happy with this performance – Jannik Sinner after beating Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of Miami Open

Jannik Sinner continued his rich form as he bested Daniil Medvedev by 6-1, 6-2 in only one hour and nine minutes to advance to the Miami Open finals. Sinner was able to dominate the Russian from the get-go and cruised to a comfortable win.

A win in the final of the Miami Open will give Sinner his third title of the season. Furthermore, the Miami Open title will also help the Italian rise to the second rank in the ATP rankings.

Meanwhile, Sinner lost the first five matches on the tour against Daniil Medvedev but he has bounced back to win the next five.

“I felt great on court today. Usually the more you go on in a tournament, the more comfortable I feel,” Sinner said. “I’m very happy with this performance.”

Sinner said Medvedev was not at his best as he made a lot of mistakes and he was expecting a tough match, which was not the case in the end. Medvedev conceded 22 unforced errors whereas Sinner gave away only 12.

“He made a lot of mistakes, which he usually doesn’t make,” Sinner said of Medvedev, who committed just four unforced errors in the first set of his quarter-final against Nicolas Jarry. “I just took the chance. I was expecting a really tough match. If he breaks me in the first set or in the second set, it’s already very different.”

Sinner, 22, is the youngest to reach three Miami Open finals whereas Medvedev could not defend his title. The Italian recalled the time when he made it to the Miami Open final in 2021.

“I remember the night before my [first] final [in 2021], I couldn’t sleep. I was sweating during the night,” Sinner recalled. “Now I handle the situation much, much better. I’m just excited and happy to be back. Hopefully, I can play some good tennis Sunday.”

Sinner will face Grigor Dimitrov in the summit clash on Sunday.
